York St John University’s Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team, invite some of your Year 12/Lower Sixth Geography pupils to participate in our Encompass project. The Encompass initiative provides young people from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic backgrounds the chance to discover what it’s like to study Geography at university. Pupils will take part in a day of seminars and workshops on our York campus, on Tuesday 6 May 2025. Sessions will be led by our Geography academics and centred on the theme of ‘climate adaptation’. Pupils will then be able to put their field work skills into practice during a day trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Thursday 12 June 2025, where we will explore in-situ and ex-situ conservation.
Upon successful completion of the project, participants will receive a guaranteed place on our Year 12 Summer School, ‘Discover YSJ’.
Travel and catering across both days is fully funded for all participants. Pupils can apply via the form on our Encompass webpage:
Applications are open until Friday 4 April 2025. Pupils should apply individually, but if you have a number of pupils interested in the project then we can look at arranging group transport.
