Expectations of independent study... An example...
This is an example timetable, based on a student studying three subjects across 12 blocks, and utilising various study periods during the college day, in the evening and on Sunday. In this example, the student has allowed for a late start on a Thursday, an early finish on a Friday, and a free day on Saturday. When thinking about directed study time, you will need to take into account the following:
There is an expectation that you should spend around 4 hours per week on each subject. This will be directed study/homework, wider reading or your own independent study. Remember this is FULL TIME education, and you are expected to treat it as such.Â
How your college study periods are distributed and where you could use time effectively. If you wish, there is enough time to do just about ALL of your study during college hours, freeing up more of your evenings and weekends.
Evenings and how effective you might be at studying at home
Any other commitments you may have such as part time work or hobbies/activities
