Expedition 2020 Daily Updates

Thursday 16th January

Our last morning in KonTum was spent at Vinh Sonh 4 where our students had great fun with the children playing football, basketball and doing craft.

Bags are packed and we are ready to head to the airport soon.

Reminder that we are landing at 19.45 (if no delays) and that students should be picked up from the domestic airport unless they make their way home on their own.

Wednesday 15th January 2020

We started the fourth day of our Kontum expedition with a 4 hour trek around the area surounding the village of Konkatu.. Although we were a little exhausted towards the end, it was a memorable experience enjoying the amazing mountain scenery that is unique to Vietnam. After having a short rest at the hotel, we had authentic Vietnamese food for lunch. Then, we had free time to spend at a new department store. At first, I did not expect much but there were a few interesting activities, such as a VR ride and arcade. Once again, we ended the day with a tasty dinner. This was followed by a special treat at a riverside cafe, where we had a chance to savour ice creams and smoothies.

Tuesday 14th January

Another unbelievable day at Kontum with our friends, classmates and dearest teachers. We blasted off our morning at 9:30 with the orphans. We arrived at the orphanage by van and the ride wasn’t long before we saw children excitedly waiting for us behind the bright green gate. We then split ourselves into two groups; most of the boys chose to do sport related activities while the girls set up an art station. The children were very enthusiastic and participated in all of the activities. ( We also enjoyed it as well :)) ). After lunch at “COM NIEU”, we had a “little” walk around 3 villages; we learnt historical backgrounds of each village and had a chance to not only gaze into the exquisite background of the wheat fields but to also talk to the villagers!!!!

Overall, today was littt!

Monday 13th January

Today we started with a short walk to the museum in KonTum. Our guide talked us through the interesting history and past of KonTum as well as showing us around the museum. We then stopped at a local cafe and went to a restaurant for lunch before the orphanage visit. Everyone was extremely excited to play games and activities with the children. When we first arrived it took a few minutes to start the activities with the kids but when they got started the time flew by. We showed the kids how to do finger painting, we played football, tug of war and so many other small games that we all enjoyed. It was hard to say goodbye and leave the orphanage as we saw how much fun the kids had with us there and how much we enjoyed our visit. After a few photos we said goodbye and left for dinner.
