Привет ! Hello!

Our Language in Focus for Term 1 is the remarkable language of Russian!

There are more than 150 million native Russian speakers from around the world. It is an official language in many countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Estonia and more!

Did you know - Russian does not use the Latin alphabet (used in English and many European languages). It uses the Cyrillic alphabet, which is similar to the Greek alphabet. The Cyrillic alphabet has 33 letters, which you can see in the picture.

As you may know, Russian is also an official language of space, along with English. All astronauts must learn Russian as part of their training, so they can communicate on the International Space Station (ISS).
