IGCSE Economics

The syllabus for Economics is here. IGCSE Economics is taught in years 10 and 11.

Students study the following key concepts over the two year period:

  1. The basic economic problem

  2. The allocation of resources

  3. Microeconomic decision makers

  4. Government and the macroeconomy

  5. Economic development

  6. International trade and globalisation.

Students take 2 exams for certification at the end of year 11 and should consult the learner guide for more details on how best to prepare.

The structure of the course allows the students to explore basic decision making by individuals, households, firms, trade unions, banks and governments.

A level Economics

The syllabus for Economics is here. A level Economics is taught in years 12 and 13.

Students study the following key concepts over the two year period:

  1. Scarcity and choice

  2. The margin and change

  3. Equilibrium and efficiency

  4. Regulation and equity

  5. Progress and development

Students take 2 exams for certification at the end of year 12 and 2 exams for certification at the end of year 13.

While it is beneficial for students to take IGCSE Economics before starting this course, it is not a course requirement.

A level Business

The syllabus for Business is here. A level Business is taught in years 12 and 13.

Students study the following key concepts over the two year period:

  1. Business and its environment

  2. People in organisations

  3. Marketing

  4. Operations and project management

  5. Finance and accounting

Students take 2 exams for certification at the end of year 12 and 1 exam for certification at the end of year 13.

The structure of the course allows the students to explore different types of businesses, how best to manage them and how financial recordkeeping impacts decision-making.
