To join the Sixth Form, students must achieve at least six GCSE/IGCSE grades of 9-5, including Maths and English Language. Many subjects require at least a grade 6, with some needing a grade 7. Admission is not solely based on academics; factors like contributions to school life, behavior, work ethic, and extracurricular involvement (e.g., sports, drama, Duke of Edinburgh, MUN) are also considered.
Year 11 students apply in their first term, and conditional offers are given after mock exams in January if they meet academic standards. Final confirmation is provided within three days of GCSE results day.Â
Students must earn at least 33 points from their six best GCSEs, including a minimum grade 5 in Maths and English Language. Mother tongue language GCSEs are usually not counted in the point total.
The point calculations are as follows:
Students who do not achieve at least a grade 5 in English Language or Mathematics may still be admitted to the Sixth Form if they meet all other requirements, but they must retake the exam. A high number of grade 5s alone is not considered a strong foundation for Sixth Form study.
Students may take four AS level subjects if they achieve a minimum of 44 points from their six best GCSE results.
External Applicants: They are usually considered if they achieve grades 9-7 in all GCSE (or equivalent) subjects. UK or Dutch passport holders transferring from outside Riyadh follow the same requirements as internal candidates. Equivalent international qualifications are considered, but BTEC First qualifications are not accepted. Students without GCSEs, IGCSEs, or O levels may need to take subject-specific tests before registering for A-level courses. External applicants also require excellent references and must attend an interview (in person or online).
In addition to achieving 33 points the following grades are required to register for A level individual subject:
The entry requirements are designed to ensure students have a strong foundation for success in their chosen courses.
Progression from Year 12 to Year 13 is not automatic. Students must demonstrate commitment and academic progress. In most cases, those scoring below a grade D at AS or in internal exams will not be allowed to continue that subject at A level. Students typically take three subjects to A2 unless they achieve mostly A grades at AS, allowing them to continue four.
All Year 13 students must have an academic program suitable for university progression. They must also follow the school's expectations and Sixth Form Code of Conduct. Accepting a place in the Sixth Form implies agreement to these rules by both students and parents. Further details are available on the school's website.
