Backpack Guidelines for Students
Students should carry only their binder, Chromebook (inside the neoprene sleeve,) charger, pencil pouch, one library book, headphones or earbuds, water bottle, and a healthy snack.
Eliminate items students do not need.
Use compartments for smaller items to distribute the load.
Cell Phones must be off and kept in a zippered compartment in backpack.
Ask students to clean backpacks frequently.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a child's backpack weigh no more than 10 to 20 percent of a child's weight.
Approximate weight of some items in a student backpack
Chromebook - 3 lbs
Library Book - 1 lb
Cell phone - ½ lb
Binder with paper - 1 - 2 lbs
Water Bottle - 2 lbs
Miscellaneous Items - 1 lb
8 - 9 lbs.
