Christmas Treats

Did you know that candy canes were originally just one color? Food is one of the most traditional parts of the holiday season, and is many people's favorite part of the holiday. If you haven't guessed yet, this article is all about Christmas foods and their history. In this, you will learn about Gingerbread, Cookies, Candy Canes, and Toffee, and may learn how to cook some new things for your amazing holiday.

Did you know that Gingerbread has been used since before America was a country? Gingerbread has a very long history, and has been cut into Christmas tree decorations since the 1830's. Gingerbread houses became popular after Hansel and Gretel was published by the Brothers Grimm. In Europe in the 1700's, only professional gingerbread makers were allowed to bake gingerbread all year. They could only bake it on Christmas and Easter, which explains the Christmas connection with gingerbread.A good Christmas treat is the christmas cookie. A good Christmas treat is the christmas cookie. You could make it into different shapes,

you could use different kinds of frosting to decorate it, you could do whatever you want.The things you need is butter, sugar, eggs, milk, and a blender possibly even chocolate chips. You can enjoy it with your family, or you could dip the cookies in milk. Maybe even both!

Below are the steps to decorate a fun Christmas cookie!

Sugar, which was once precious and expensive, was reserved for Christmas. Folklore says that the candy cane was invented to keep young singers quiet during services. It is unknown if that is true, but we know that in Ohio,1847, an immigrant from Germany named August Imgard decorated his Christmas tree with candy canes. Colored stripes were added in the 1900's, most likely to denote some of the wintergreen or peppermint flavors.(Rotkovitz)

Step 1

First you make the cookie with all the ingredients and then put it on the table and then start working.

Step 2

Then you start your outline and color it then fill it in with any color you want.

Step 3

when you are done it would look cool and then write on it merry christmas!!!!

Toffee

Toffee has been around and available for many years, and some people may consider it their favorite christmas treat. Although its very popular, there isn't much history about it. No one knows where the word ‘Toffee’ actually came from, although people can guess.

Toffee recipe:

(Tip: Use aluminum foil to make cleaning process easier)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

Line cookie sheet with saltine crackers in one single layer

In a pan put butter and brown sugar

Bring to a boil and boil for about 3 minutes ( Do NOT stir while it is boiling!). Immediately pour over saltines crackers and spread to cover crackers completely.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 to 6 minutes. Take out of oven and immediately put chocolate chips over the crackers. Let sit for 5 minutes then spread the now melted chocolate

with a butter knife (Allrecipes). Put in fridge overnight and enjoy!
