Coach Miller is in his 18th year of coaching track and field at Century High School. He spent the first 10 years as an assistant throws coach, 3 years as a co-head coach, and the last 5 seasons as solo head coach. During this time, CHS has won 7 state titles. Prior to coaching at Century, Coach Miller was a student-athlete at Century, graduating in 2006. He placed 4th at State in the discus that year. After high school, he graduated from the University of Mary with majors in physical education and elementary education. He is currently an elementary physical education teacher in BPS. He is also an assistant coach on the football team for Century.

Coach Jacobsen has 27 years of track and field coaching experience. Coach Jacobsen graduated from Dickinson High School, while there he competed in football, basketball and track and field. He graduated from North Dakota State University and competed in football and track and field. Coach Jacobsen completed his master’s degree from the University of Wyoming. During his long career, he has coached multiple hurdle state champions, sprint champions and many short relay champions. Over the last 27 years he has also coached football, swimming and diving, strength and conditioning, baseball and youth soccer.

Coach Wingenbach has 40 years of track and field coaching experience; thirty-four @ Century High School and six years @ Carrington High School. During that span, he has served as Head Coach for eleven years and as an assistant for twenty-eight. Wingenbach has been a part of seven State Championship teams at Century as an assistant coach. Ron graduated from Dickinson State College in 1984 majoring in Math Education and started his coaching and teaching career at Carrington that fall. He was hired by Bismarck Public Schools in 1990 and has been at Century High School since teaching in the Math department until his retirement in 2024. He has also been a head football coach since 1984 and enjoyed fifteen years as an assistant basketball coaching during this tenure.
Rich Hovland - Assistant Coach-Jumps

Coach Hovland is a Rugby High School and Valley City State College graduate. This is Coach Hovland's 35th year coaching track at CHS and 39th year overall as a track coach. He previously coached in Steele and Bottineau. He has also coached Football, Girls and Guys Basketball, & Baseball in his career and enjoyed being a part of 13 state titles, 10 of them at CHS. This is his 113th season as a high school coach. Coach Hovland has coached multiple individual state champions in the jumps and many all-state jumpers.
Brad Lies - Assistant Coach-Middle Distance & Distance

Coach Lies is in his 26th year as a track and field coach. He has been a part of nine North Dakota Class A Track and Field Championships. Two of which were with the Grand Forks Red River Girls Track & Field team in 2000 and the Century Girls Track & Field Championship in 2005. He has also been a part of the Century Boys Track & Field titles from 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Coach Lies has coached many individual and relay teams to state championships along with coaching many all-state runners. He also serves as the Boys Cross Country coach, where his teams have won four state championships: 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He and his staff have coached 40 All-State runners and 65 All-Conference runners. Coach Lies is a 1993 graduate of Grand Forks Red River High School and a graduate of the University of North Dakota, where he competed in track and field. He currently teaches visual arts at Century High School.
Jess Schulte - Assistant Coach-Pole Vault

This is Coach Schulte’s 8th season at Century. She is a 2005 graduate of Century High School, the current 100m hurdle record holder and a two time North Dakota state champion in the pole vault. She was a part of the 2005 State Champion track and field team. After high school, she was a student-athlete at the University of North Dakota from 2005-2009. During her collegiate career, she earned four conference titles, was a two year team captain and named Track and Field MVP in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, she earned two NCAA Division II All-American awards in the pole vault. The same year she was named to the USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team, the NCC Commissioner's Academic Indoor Track and Field Honor Roll and the NCC Commissioner's Academic Outdoor Track and Field Honor Roll. She later served as the interim Head Women's and Men's Track and Field Coach at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. In addition, she is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Coach Walker coached football for 28 years, wrestling for 15 years, and track, specifically the throwers, for 13 years at Killdeer High School. He was the head track coach for five years. He retired from teaching in 2012. Then he and his wife moved to Grand Forks. While there, he coached the throwers in Hillsboro-Central Valley for six years. They moved to Bismarck in 2018. He’s been the assistant throws coach at Century for the past six years. He is presently enjoying retirement and enjoying coaching as his main gig!
Annika Stone - Assistant Coach-Distance

Coach Stone is in her 3rd year of coaching at CHS. In addition to being an assistant track coach, she is also an assistant cross country coach at Century. Coach Stone graduated from Hillsboro High School in 2015. She was apart of two state championship relays her senior year in the 4x400 and 4x800. Following high school, Coach Stone attended NDSU, where she ran track and cross country. She was a multiple time All-Summit League runner across the various distance events, and a two time qualifier to the NCAA West Preliminary rounds in the 1500m. At NDSU, Coach Stone earned her bachelor's degree in Biology and Psychology and her master's degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science.

Coach Murphy is in his 6th year of being an assistant throws coach for Century High School track and field. Prior to coaching at Century, Coach Murphy graduated from Century in 2013 where he was a 2 time state qualifier in shot put and placed 4th his senior year. After high school, Coach Murphy was a 4-year starter at University of Jamestown as an offensive lineman from 2014-2017, where he graduated with a secondary-education History degree. He is currently employed at Horizon Middle School as a Social Studies/Communications teacher, along with being an assistant football coach for Century High School.
Brandon Schaffer - Assistant Coach-Throws
Coach Schaffer is in his 4th year of being an assistant throws coach for Century High School track and field. Prior to coaching at Century, Coach Schaffer graduated from Century in 2019 where he was a 2 time state qualifier in the javelin and placed 4th his senior year. He also qualified in pole vault and placed 5th his sophomore year. He was also a 2-time National Qualifier for the javelin. He currently holds the Freshman/ Sophomore pole vault record at Century as well as being 6th all-time in pole vault (14’) and 3rd all-time in the javelin (182’4”) at Century. He also has the biggest career improvements from freshman year to senior year (74’4”). After high school, Coach Schaffer went to Minnesota State University Moorhead for track and field. He is currently employed by the Bismarck Fire Department.

Jackson Trottier- Assistant Coach -Jumps
Coach Trottier is in his 1st season as an assistant jumps coach at Century. Born and raised in Bismarck, Coach Trottier was a student-athlete at Century, graduating in 2020. During his time at Century, he participated in football, basketball, and baseball, winning 2 State Championships as a player. He is currently working towards his Physical Education degree through Mayville State University, expecting to graduate in May. Coach Trottier is presently employed at Century High School as a Building Substitute Teacher, along with being an assistant boys' basketball coach at Century.
