Tennis Spectator Etiquette

Tennis is a unique sport when it comes to cheering for your favorite player. Below are some guidelines that are sport-specific standards and requirements.

1. No coaching from spectators is allowed. Spectators/parents may not communicate with players during the match.

2. Make no calls. All calls on the court are to be made by players. Calls will be missed. Please don't try to correct any calls or score mistakes.

3. When to cheer:

   • Cheering should be done after the point, not during.

   • Cheer after your player makes a great shot.

   • Cheer when both players finish a long, exciting point.

   • At the end of a match

4. When not to cheer:

   • Don’t cheer when the opponent makes a bad shot that goes into the net or flies out, or after a double fault.

   • Don’t cheer when the ball hits another player or the net posts.

   • Generally, we don’t cheer unless our player earns a point.

5. Don’t talk loudly during the match. Remember that we are at the courts for tennis and it is a high concentration game. Excessive noise distracts players from their task.

6. Don’t move around too much during points. This too can be distracting.

7. Enjoy the game.
