Frequently Asked Questions

Communication

One of the easiest and fastest ways for us to communicate is via our classroom app, Bloomz.

New to Bloomz? It's a neat classroom communication app that allows parents to contact me and vice-versa from the convenience of our cell phones while keeping our phone numbers private and secure. I am also able to make announcements and reminders, and even set up conferences and request volunteer help. If you don't have a cell phone that you use to text, this app will also work via email address.

To join:

1.Download the Bloomz app and click "Create Account." If opting for email communication only, go to bloomz.com and click on "Join Bloomz."

2. Next, enter the class code: GW9KDA

3. Finally, create your account.

*Need help? Send me an email and I'll get your account set up for you. :)

You are also always welcome to email me at dperez@bisdmail.net or call the school at (817) 245-3900.

SCHOOLOGY

Another great way to peek in on what assignments we have worked on or what new assignments are coming and their due dates is to keep an eye on our Schoology classroom.

Once students are successfully logged into their Schoology accounts, you should be able to access that information as well.

Homework

I get a lot of questions about homework, so if you have a few, you're not alone! 4th grade is quite a shift from previous years of elementary. I typically do not assign homework. My policy is: What isn't finished in class is homework that is due the following day. There are some exceptions, such as reading NIGHTLY for 20+ minutes and studying for vocabulary/spelling assessments, but there are rarely assignments students are asked to complete entirely at home and return. When students fail to complete their homework, I will make note and ask them to use recess and/or lunch (while eating) to finish it. I try to ensure that no student falls behind.

graded papers & Announcements

Graded work is an excellent way for me to communicate to students and their parents how successful they currently are regarding specific skills. Any work placed in the right side of the take-home folder should be cleared out nightly. Any announcements or forms placed in the left-hand side of the folder require attention and should be returned to school afterwards as soon as possible.
