I am so proud of the staff and students at The Academy of Leadership and Technology at Mound Elementary. We have been working extremely hard to implement the 7 Habits into our learning and daily lives. In March of 2020 we reached our goal of becoming a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. Being a Lighthouse School means that we are a model school for the 7 Habits.

Here is how I use the 7 Habits

Habit 1: Be Proactive

This is probably one of the most important habits in my mind. I try to be proactive everyday when I get up. I have the power to choose what kind of day I want to have. I know I can wake up and dread going to work and have a miserable day or I can choose to be excited and happy to go to work and make it a great day. I know things are always peachy keen but I can be proactive in how I respond to every situation. I am incharge of ME!!

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Right now my family is in the process of trying to build our dream home. I am using Habit 2 by creating a plan for what I want my house to look like. Knowing what I want the end result to look like will help with the process of building it.

Habit 3: Put First Things First

I use a daily planner to help me organize my "big rocks." It is important I take care the most important events first and then I can fill the rest of my daily with my "smaller rocks."

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Being a mom of two, this habit gets used a lot. I am constantly finding ways to have a balance of what both of my kids want to do with what I need them to do.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood

Since I have be come an assistant principal I have had to improve on my use of Habit 5. Before I would not really listen sometimes because I was trying to form my response back. Now I really listen to my students, teachers, and parents to make sure I am understanding the whole situation going on.

Habit 6: Synergize

This is one of my favorite habits to use at school. I love working collaboratively with Ms. Bennett and the staff at Mound. "Together is Better"

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

One of my new favorite ways to sharpen my saw is to exercise on my Peloton. Exercising hasn't always been something I like to do but I love to exercise now. I like to do the cycling classes it has to offer because it pairs another love of mine, MUSIC. Finding classes that have songs from my childhood and current ones that are hits makes the classes so much fun. Exercising is now something I look forward to.
