What is our mission?
"The mission of the school library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information." -- Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs.
How do I contact the Library Media Specialist?
The best way to reach Mrs. Mullikin is through email: jennifer.mullikin@bisdmail.net
How many books can I check out?
Kindergarten - 1st grade = 1 book
2nd grade - 4th grade = 2 books
5th grade = 3 books
When can I visit the library?
The library operates on a fixed/flexible schedule. That means students in grades K-3 visit the library on a regularly scheduled day, and students in grades 4-5 visit the library when they want or need. Teachers may schedule lessons on information literacy skills that coincide with what is being taught in the classroom. Our goal is for the library and the librarian to not only support student learning, but to enhance student learning through teacher/librarian collaboration.
When are books due?
The computer marks all items overdue that have been checked out for two weeks or longer. If you have an item that is overdue you will get an e-mail reminder.
Please return books you are finished with as soon as possible since others may be waiting to read them. Students are welcome to keep items longer than two weeks, but please come to the library to renew your items so they won’t be marked overdue. Fines are NOT charged for overdue items.
What happens if an item from the library is lost or damaged?
Lost books must be paid for in order to clear student records. Once an item is marked lost, students will be asked to pay for lost and damaged items.
What reading programs does the library sponsor?
Reading programs are offered throughout the year for all students. Visit the Brock Library website for more information on the Bluebonnet Book Club and more! The library also runs Scholastic Book Fairs each year to get kids excited about reading and raise money to support our library program.
What do students learn in the library?
Research shows that children learn best when they can access information at the point-of-need. The goal of our library program is to be an extension of the classroom and of the information skills that are taught within the context of the classroom curriculum. Students in grades K-2 also learn essential book and library skills so they have a solid foundation for accessing information.
