If you have ever wondered how rubber duckies are made now you can find out. Better bathtime inc. Has let the Cunningham new crew into its production facilities. Here we were allowed to watch exactly how the rubber ducks are made. At the start of the production line they use latex from Hevea brasiliensis trees. This tree also has the nickname of the rubber tree because it is used to make most rubber. This is mixed with neoprene which is another main ingredient of Better Bathtime Inc. rubber. Here they combine it with the other needed ingredients and a vast amount of yellow industrial dye. Half of the batch, now weighing roughly two tons, is poured into a large vat where it will be used later. The other half is poured into molds where it will cool down quickly and become a plain rubber duck. Next they use the same rubber to put into molds for the eyes, beak and other facial features that may be used. The beaks are melted at the end and they push this end onto the plain duck with an automated system. Then the ducks get their eyes in a similar fashion. They go into another cooling chamber then finally they are ready for the public.
Now we get to what happens with the other vat that was mentioned earlier. This vat of rubber is poured into a large mold that makes a huge rubber duck. The mold includes the beak and the beak part of the mold has industrial dye already in it. Once cool this behemoth of a duck is ready for the next step. Workers come in and they hand paint eyes onto the rubber duck.
These large ducks are made roughly once every two hours. Production is slow compared to the small ones. The small ones produce 10,000 per hour. These huge ducks are for sale for around 11,500€. (13754.59 USD) very wealthy people tend to use them as a floatation device to get pulled behind a yacht. This makes for some very good times.
