While this is a relatively new role for me, this is not new territory. I have been in education for twenty eight years, eighteen of which have been at Blakely! I have taught a range of ages from preschool to 5th grade and I have raised two boys on the island.
Our district adopted a problem based learning model for instruction delivery and project work for our HC program. In addition, students will have weekly math challenges and engage in group discussions that require deep thinking. Education is my passion and project based learning is my favorite way to teach.
When we are in the building, we meet in the Branches classroom Mondays and Thursdays. Your child's teacher will know the schedule.
Look out for newsletter updates.
Our counselor, Krista Sodt, came up with a beautiful description of our building as a tree: The Root(s)- Level one. This level supports the school, The Trunk- Level 2 (preschool and primary). This level grows strong learners and is the foundation of support for the upper level. The Canopy Level 3 (upper grades and special services)- the last years at Blakely- like maple tree helicopter seeds, this level sends students off to the outside world.
To align with our building tree theme, the HC program will now be called Branches. Our HC room is in the “canopy” and the program branches off the grade level curriculum. When I call your children out to meet with me, I will use this name. When you talk about HC with your child, please be sure to use this name so there is no confusion.
