Experiences, Projects & Portfolio

What do CAS projects involve?

A CAS Project should be:

  • real, purposeful activities, with significant outcomes

  • personal challenge

  • thoughtful consideration, such as planning, reviewing progress, reporting

  • reflection on outcomes and personal learning

You should initiate the Project, collaborate with other members of the community, on-campus or outside school.

Be meaningful, it should last more than a month and you must follow the CAS Stages.

A CAS PROJECT EXAMPLE

Creativity & Service Project, by Emma Ricci

MUSEUM WITH NO FRONTIERS

Museum With No Frontiers is a non-profit organization, is the largest online museum in the world. They work with the help of 'Museum Partners' to collect artworks and organize events around theM. I came up with a service idea for the NGO and did a proposal to them after meeting the CEO Eva Schubert in Rome.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

2. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

3. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

4. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

5. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

6. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

7. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

After discussing with MWNF’s CEO, we came to the idea of analyzing how and if young people are interested in art and in particular Islamic Art.

At the beginning I was unsure in what direction I should go to complete this project, however, I knew that I wanted to use social media as a communication tool as it is one of the easiest ways to reach a young public.

I made a small online survey and shared it on my personal social media to promote it, in order to determine if teenagers are a potential new market for MWNF.

The survey is composed of 8 questions:

  1. On a scale from 1 (not interested at all)- 10 (very interested), rate your interest in art and art history

  2. Would you say that you are aware of your country’s artistic heritage?

  3. How long ago was your last art museum visit?

  4. On a scale from 1 (not interested at all)- 10 (very interested), rate your interest in the history of the Arab-Ottoman-European world.

  5. Do you follow on your social media (Instagram, Facebook

  6. Twitter etc) any organizations (for example UN, Red Cross, any museum or university…)?

  7. Are you interested in increasing your knowledge of art history?

  8. What area of the arts would you like to know more about?

REFLECTION:

This project was a very interesting one that taught me a lot about different topics such as ads, social media, and communication. I analyzed the results of my survey and made some conclusions. I made a slideshow to present my findings to the MWNF team. I gave a description of the results, analysis, conclusions, applications, further projects that MWNF could do, and survey improvements. I had some difficulties in reaching enough people to interview so that the data wouldn't be biased, but I surpassed this issue by asking friends to share my survey with contacts. In the end, I really loved this project and learned so much from it!
