As the deadline for the introduction of the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet approaches, the EU faces the significant challenge of integrating multiple wallets from its 27 member states. Digital identity software company Hopae is stepping up to solve this issue by aiming to become the first EU-registered trusted intermediary platform.
The U.S.-based firm is partnering with identity management and cryptographic solution provider Incert to create a service that will accept EUDI credentials and aggregate all digital identity wallets made by EU member states. According to the eIDAS 2.0 ARF (European Digital Identity Architecture and Reference Framework), the duo will assume an intermediary role, becoming a registered Relying Party that provides services to other Relying Parties.
The global eID verification platform, known as Hopae Connect or hConnect, will rely on eIDAS-compliant infrastructure, which is already in use by some European governments. Launched in June, hConnect will facilitate the integration of both first-generation eIDs and the upcoming EUDI Wallet. The platform currently supports over 100 eIDs and boasts 99 percent wallet compatibility. Hopae expects that the platform will cover full EU eIDs by Q3 2026, with the API compliant with eIDAS 2.0, GDPR, ISO 27001, and SOC 2.
“A fully integrated ecosystem is the key to achieving seamless functionality and wide-scale usage of the EUDI wallet,” says Benoit Poletti, CEO of Incert.
Hopae will also become a Qualified Trusted Service Provider (QTSP), enabling the service to support electronic attestations. The two firms anticipate completing the conformity assessment and registration by the end of September 2025.
Hopae, known for its collaboration with the South Korean government, is also inviting developers worldwide to work on digital identity verification and eID integration. To sweeten the deal, the company has launched a $1 million bounty for developers.
This initiative is part of Hopae’s broader goal to create a robust, integrated digital identity ecosystem that enhances security and convenience for users across the EU and beyond.Â
