The need for order at this time of such political and human turmoil is reflected in my recent series. It represents a sense of visual order from what once was total mayhem; my work is a carefully thought out marriage between shape and color.
It is a break from reality - a visual escape which we all yearn for right now. I think about grid structure and color theory to create the feeling of being visually alive and comforted. I want the viewer to think that they’ve seen and this before and it feels familiar.
My sketchbooks consist of many pages of notes for each painting. Direction, repetition, texture, movement and flow are all elements presented in this series. Soft brushwork and application of a select color palette creates a flicker or vibration to the human eye that makes visual buzz between colors. I want the viewer to participate in the painting — to feel that there is order in the world.
