The Microfluidics and Multiphase Flow Laboratory at SUNY Binghamton is engaged in workforce development at all levels, from outreach to K-5 student through to our PhD program.
Our PhD Students have access to world-class research facilities and explore problems in microelectronics manufacturing and packaging, microfluidics, and soft materials. They publish their work in leading journals, obtain internships to broaden their skills, and graduate into research positions at top companies and universities. Masters and undergraduate students apply the skills learned in their course work to challenging problems in microelectronics and microfluidics. They graduate into exciting positions throughout the country. Our lab seeks to engage with student from all backgrounds to expand opportunity and to help meet the workforce needs of NY State and the country.
Working with the Center for Civic Engagement at SUNY Binghamton, our team created a K-5 STEM workshop program for students in the Southern Tier of NY. The workshops involved hands-on activities designed to enhance student interest in mechanical engineering and materials science, while also supporting student self-esteem and confidence. Over several years, the program interacted with 100s of students in the Southern Tier.
