Robert Maynard Hutchins: “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.” As an educator it is not only my responsibility to educate my students with academic knowledge, it is imperative that my students leave my class with a strong sense of self-efficacy through the successful achievement of academic and personal goals. I want my student to feel empowered regardless of their demography or ethnicity.
Students should be provided a learning environment in which they feel safe, respectful, and are given the freedom to reach their potential. They need an atmosphere free of physical and emotional danger/stress. I provide a safe and stress-free environment to all my students through clear instruction and consistent reminding of mutual respect in the student-to-student relationship as well as teacher-to-student relationship. Students will be able to focus on greatness in an environment in which the whole student is being considered.
Students will thrive with appropriate instruction driven by beneficial data. Students need to have information presented to them according to their individual learning styles. This can be accomplished by delivering lessons which involve written, oral and kinesthetic modes. The appropriate delivery of the type of information needs to be data driven. The data needs to be obtained from daily and on-going assessments. When students are taught at their level and learn to their potential they will have the confidence and desire to continue to learn the rest of their lives stemming from the intrinsic need to grow in knowledge.
