Scholarships
Students are encouraged to apply for all scholarships that they are eligible for. When students are accepted to a college/university, it is also encouraged that students search and apply for any scholarships through that university/college as soon as possible. Students are not guaranteed to be awarded with scholarships, however, it is a guarantee they will not receive a scholarship if they do not apply.
FAFSA Frequently Asked Questions:
I don't qualify for aid. Should I apply anyway?
Yes. Many families mistakenly think they don't qualify for aid and prevent themselves from receiving financial aid by failing to apply for it. In addition, there are a few sources of aid such as an unsubsidized Stafford and PLUS loans that are available regardless of need. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is free. There is no good excuse for not applying.
Do I need to apply for financial aid every year?
Yes. Most financial aid offices require that you apply for financial aid every year. If your financial circumstances change, you may get more or less aid. After your first year you will receive a "Renewal Application" which contains pre-printed information from the previous year's FAFSA. Note that your eligibility for financial aid may change from year to year depending on family income, student GPA requirement, ect.
Do I need to be admitted to a school before I can apply for financial aid?
No. You can apply for financial aid any time after the application has been released for that year. To actually receive funds, however, you must be admitted and enrolled at the university. Scholarship awards from colleges and universities are sometimes based on financial need, so complete both the FAFSA and any scholarship forms to open up the best opportunities. Scholarship deadlines may vary, so check with the school of your choice for details.
