Students need to be reading 20-30 minutes/night, but I want to add a twist to this reading adventure. Students will have accountability partners in our class and they will meet during the day to check in to hear the details in the book/books they are reading at home.

Here are a few questions to keep the conversation going at school.

What do you like best about your book?

What feelings did this book evoke for you?

Which character do you most closely relate to, and why?

How have you been changed by what you read?

Does your new understanding leave you feeling motivated to take any action?

How can you help at home? Remind your child to read every night. Encourage him/her to think about a few of the questions listed above as he/she reads. Focus on different questions every night to keep the conversation fresh. Have conversations with your child about what he/she is reading as well.

Thank you for sharing the love of reading with your child!
