Our NWEA testing begins tomorrow. My class will be testing Wednesday through Friday, at 10:15 each day. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a good breakfast!

Also, note that our Open House will be Thursday, September 5 from 6:00 - 7:00. Can't wait to see all of my students' parents!

Our first Monday together: We had our first Problem solving session of the year. Each week, we will present the fifth graders with an interesting, challenging problem. Sometimes they are related directly to math, others they may be logic or spatial. Our goal is to encourage the fifth graders to persevere when face with difficult materials. Students often find these a little challenging, but also fun.

We are also digging into writing this week. Today, each student wrote about how they can tell whether someone will be a good friend or not. I am excited to read their journal entries about this topic.

What a great beginning! Tomorrow we will continue getting acquainted and learning about the routines in fifth grade. Mrs. Besel and I enjoyed meeting the fifth graders and beginning the process of building our new learning community.
