🏫 Where is KinderREADy located?
KinderREADy is currently offered at four schools and we hope to add more! Our current locations are at Bench, Orchard, McKinley an Miles Avenue Elementary Schools.
📚 What curriculum do you use for KinderREADy?
Our KinderREADy early literacy program uses the World of Wonders PreK literacy curriculum. This curriculum is aligned with the Billings Public Schools Wonders literacy curriculum for grades K-5. It helps build a strong foundation for early literacy, focusing on developmentally appropriate instruction with play-based learning, social emotional development and cross curricular activities.
💲 What is the cost of the KinderREADy program?
Our program is offered completely free to eligible students, thanks to funding from the state for early literacy targeted interventions.
👦👧 How do I know if my child qualifies for KinderREADy?
KinderREADy is an early literacy program funded by the state, and therefore, in order to determine eligibility all students must be screened using an early literacy screener. Students will be admitted based on need. Additionally, students must be 4 years old by September 10th of the school year.
🌟 How do I get started?
To begin the process, please complete the pre-registration form on our website. Then, plan to attend our early literacy screening event (dates will be posted in early 2026). Placement is not guaranteed - pre-register right away!
📋 When are the early literacy screening dates?
Early literacy screenings will be held throughout April, May and June. When pre-registration opens, please complete the pre-registration form and then we will contact you to schedule a screening time.
🖍️ Can my child enroll in KinderREADy and in another preschool, too?
To help your child get the most out of this early literacy experience, it's important that families commit fully to the program. Because of the way KinderREADy is structured, students should not be enrolled in another preschool program at the same time. We also ask that children attend Monday through Friday and arrive on time each day. Regular attendance and punctuality help create a smooth, engaging routine that supports learning and builds a strong classroom community.
☀️ Does this program happen during the summer?
No, KinderREADy runs during the school year. If you are looking for a summer program, you may be thinking of our Jumpstart program, developed to support student learning over several weeks this summer. Incoming kindergartners for 2025-26 will be screened at their home schools this spring, and families of students who qualify for Jumpstart will then be notified that they are eligible for this free opportunity.
