1. Within the adult learning competency, I aim work on building awareness of adult learners’ diverse needs as well as addressing adult learners’ diverse needs. Within the interpersonal effectiveness competency, I need to identify the school’s challenges and needs that impact growth as well as understanding the schools challenges and needs that impact teaching and learning. I believe that if I can assess the teachers in our district to get their feedback on the wants and needs of professional development and student learning, I can help facilitate professional development that will suit their needs. I also hope to look for and discover the unique expertise that everyone has and be able to utilize their gifts to serve the great good in our district. So often the administration or leaders forget about the expertise that we have right here in our school and district. We need to celebrate effective teachers and build one another up!
2. I want to show my colleagues that I value the importance of their professional growth and development for the benefit of their students. I specifically designed the Google Form to show that I wanted to foster the development of colleagues and value their skills and abilities. My end goal is to plan professional development that allows my colleagues to make their own professional decisions and work with teachers to provide information about their own practice to promote growth and development. I have had several teacher leaders come along side me and encourage my leadership and helped me to see leadership opportunities available. I want to continue to do the same for my colleagues.
3. By meeting in person with four different PLC groups as well as meeting with the assistant principal, I was able to articulate the message that meaningful student-centered goals in instruction are important. By meeting with them face to face, I was able to communicate a shared vision and build a culture of respect and value. I want to share my passion for this vision with my colleagues and gather feedback and reflection from them. Specifically, by meeting in person I was able to communicate and share my message with other teachers. I was amazed at how much teachers were able to open up and speak honestly about the school’s challenges and needs that impact their teaching and student learning. I was able to promote a collegial environment of trust and respect. Through discussion about professional development and our student culture at our school I was able to work with other teachers to provide information about my own practice to promote growth and development and discuss targeted professional development for the future. I found it so helpful to meet face to face for a relaxed conversation which really did promote an environment of trust and respect. This form of communication was genuine and pivotal in gathering data for my project. I am trying hard to communicate my understanding of issues that impede socially just learning environments. By meeting with administration as well as the teachers in their PLCs, I want to provide an opportunity for stakeholders of all cultures and diverse backgrounds to be able to contribute their knowledge, skills, and perspectives in a variety of ways.
4. I plan to work well in advance of the scheduled professional development dates to organize effectively. However, I understand obstacles can take place. I have verified with our district professional development coordinator that the targeted offerings at our school will qualify for MEA trade as well as OPI renewal units. I have received the appropriate paperwork to file for each individual training. In late August I plan to meet with the individuals who have expressed interest in providing professional development and scheduling the dates that work best for them. I plan to meet with our school administrator to confirm the training dates with the school calendar and classroom use.
5. I have developed a post professional development survey for the teachers attending as well as a post professional development survey for the teacher leaders. I plan to review the documentation provided after the professional development to help me better serve the teachers in our building going forward.
This professional development master list shows the teachers who would like the opportunity to share their expertise and become teacher leaders within our building. The list was comprised from the staff google survey.
This Google Survey was created to gather important feedback from participants in the targeted professional development. This data will help the teacher leaders grow as well as seek to address adult learners' diverse needs while utilizing their areas of expertise.
