Montana Content Standards require that students be competent at higher levels in fewer things and understand concepts more deeply. One way to help teachers better understand concepts and prioritize these standards is to create proficiency scales. BPS proficiency scales clearly articulate what students are to know and to what degree, so teachers can accurately and reliably monitor student progress. The ultimate goal is to have clearly defined learning targets so students understand how to meet those targets and what is expected to show mastery.
