The Happy Goat Store Story
The Happy Goat Spirit Store is a work-based program that has been in business for five years at the Monticello High School campus. This program allows students to work and learn real-life skills they can put to use in their daily lives. They will gain real work experience, how to use a POS system, laser cutting machine, screen printing machine, design programs, communication skills with both peers and adults in a professional manner, math skills, and many other skills that will better them in future endeavors. The students who participate in the program earn an elective credit along with a monthly paycheck for their work efforts. Our program is supported with the help of MSD staff, students, our community, and Arkansas Rehabilitation Services(ARS).
The store has grown since our beginning in 2020, however, in the 2024-2025 School Year there are many new and positive changes.
We changed our location in the high school and are now in room 702. This change comes with a whole new look for the store and will allow us to do a lot of new stuff. We have 22 students working in the store and at other jobs within the district.
Our program is also working with the STAR(Seamless Transition for ARkansas) project, to provide more transition opportunities for MHS students. We now sell at all senior high football games, we will soon be opening a store branch in our new gym so we can sell at all basketball games, we will be open after-school hours during certain times of the school year.
This year we have a wider variety of hand-made products, student-designed products, and many pre-made products.
We also carry lots of spirit items such as face tattoos, megaphones, cowbells and a lot more.We also plan to offer a washing/drying service to both students and staff in the near future.
