Biggin Hill Music Blog

What have we learnt this term?

This term has been an exciting term for all students who love music.

Every Wednesday in Key Stage 1 and every Thursday in Key Stage 2, we've been joining in with singing assemblies. We choose our favourite pop songs and we use our best voices to sing them as a school. Favourites this term have been Gala - Free From Desire, Benson Boone - Beautiful Things and Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance with Me.

In lessons, we have been learning a range of musical areas and skills:

EYFS - Big Band

Year 1 - Musical Vocabulary - Vocal and Body Sounds

Year 2 - Myths and Legends

Year 3 - Traditional Instruments and Improvisation

Year 4 - Adopting and Transposing Motifs

Year 5 - Musical Theatre

Year 6 - Composing a Leaver's Song

As well as our regular lessons, throughout the year, Year 1 , Year 3 and Year 5 take part in Rocksteady. The children form a band, choose an instrument and a song and then work as a team to practice their song and perform it for parents. We hope to see you at a show soon!

Year 6 also join Mrs Pimm in brass lessons!

Performances this year so far.

What's been going on?

Performing in front of an audience and working as part of an ensemble is so important to a child's confidence and development. This term, all the children have worked so hard at bringing their best efforts to all of their performances.

YEAR 3 AND YEAR 4

At the end of the spring term, Year 3 and 4 performed their play, 'The Lion King.' It showcased some excellent talent, with fantastic singing and acting performances from everyone involved.

Year 3 have also taken part in their Rocksteady concert. In groups of 9, they form a band, choose a band name, a song, the instruments they'd like to play and then they learn to play as a band! We've just completed our concert and it was an a amazing day. Our Year 5 After School Rocksteady Band, 'The Black Roses,' also played their newest song they've learnt, 'Song 2' by Blur.

YEAR 6

Year 6 have been working hard on their leaver's performance, with children showcasing excellent dancing, singing and performance skills. Texts should be going out to Year 6 parents with details about the upcom

BRASS LESSONS

Year 6 have finished their brass lessons for this term and our newest Year 6 children moving up next year have already been offered their places. Lots of children seem excited about learning and performing a new instrument.

We can't wait to see what else the children have to offer next year. Fingers crossed, we should have performances from some external music groups coming in to perform for the children next year.

Be sure to check out the school's Facebook page, which has lots of pictures and videos of our amazing performances!

If you come to a concert, you can be sure that you'll be seeing our amazing ambassadors greeting people, organising chairs, introducing the bands and helping with preparations.

If parents or students have any questions about music activities within school or outside of school, please see a member of staff.
