Big Bottom Sheep Co. gets it's name from the beautiful Big Bottom Valley we call home. Located at the center of Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams there is no shortage of wilderness to explore here. What started as a means to reduce the cost of my iced latte habit, one ewe quickly spiraled into a whole flock and a dream of providing a more accessible and cost effective source of fresh milk for local homesteaders. While I would still love to someday own a Jersey cow, they are a big commitment and can be intimidating to beginner farmers that don't have experience handling large livestock. Sheep require less space than cows, and have a milder tasting milk than goats (the taste and texture are similar to half and half in my opinion).
I was lucky enough to know someone who was willing to teach me how to hand milk, but for many people this is a huge roadblock in adding a dairy animal to their homestead. This is why it was important to me to not only provide the animals, but the support and education to go with them.
