The purpose of this quarterly newsletter is to spread the word about the innovative work of Out of the Gate: Preparing Preservice Teachers to Use PBL Through PBL (Out of the Gate). On these pages we will share successes, reflections, and experiences of participants, lessons learned, and research results from the teacher education program (TEP)/district partnerships participating in this project. This newsletter is for Out of the Gate Project participants, members of the partnership communities, as well as the broader K-12 and higher education communities. Please join us in our effort to transform teacher education by sharing this newsletter with others.

As you move into implementing your project, you'll have two more in person workshops with your National Faculty to support you. Find out more about those workshop on the Participant Hub site In the meantime, check out these resources to help get things started on the right foot.
On December 5, 2018, faculty, student teachers and cooperating teachers at Otterbein University gathered to celebrate the end of the fall student teaching semester with an evening exhibition showcasing the projects Out of the Gate participants implemented in their classrooms. Each year a cohort of preservice teachers, their cooperating teachers, and teacher education program faculty participate in a series of workshops to develop and hone their skills to design and implement high quality PBL.
In the last newsletter we framed the beginning and end of the progression of learning--the Project Slice and PBL Symposium. The heart of the experience is the PBL 101 workshop where participants learn and apply BIE's Gold Standard Design Elements to create the project they're going to use during their student teaching semester or, for faculty, in their classrooms.
