Writing:
Here at BPS students will have a writing block each day. We call this writer's workshop. Students will build the skills needed to begin writing stories from their own lives and drawing pictures to match.
Reading:
Here at BPS we will be using the Heggerty program. This is a wonderful program that follows the science of reading. In addition to learning all of the letters and letter sounds, students will begin learning how to decode and encode words. They will also practice blending and segmenting sounds and deleting or adding sounds to make new words.
By the end of kindergarten, students will be able to:
Identify capital and lowercase letters
Identify letter sounds
Read 25 sight words
Recognize and produce rhymes
Write first and last name
Write phonetically (sound out words and write the sounds they hear)
