HISTORY
The Flare was approved as the official student publication of Chemical Engineering Department by PIChE – JCV Board of Officers A.Y. 2002 – 2003 under the tutelage of Dr. Natividad M. Padre, former department head. However, after running for two academic years, the publication took a three – year hiatus. It was revived again on 2008 by Mr. Jakechris P. Sicad former EIC, who also renamed the publication as “Helion Flare”. It was until the leadership of Engr. Fatima Baranquil, EIC for A.Y. 2018 – 2020, that the publication name was reverted back to “The Flare”.Embedded Files
THE LOGO
The logo of The Flare consists of 4 elements. The manufacturing plant enclosed in a Florence flask represents the Chemical Engineering profession. The quill symbolizes communication while the flare coming out of the plant signifies the burning commitment to stand out for truth. The quill and the flare together form a capital letter F, which refers to The Flare.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The Flare is the official publication of the Bicol University College of Engineering, Chemical Engineering Department. As it generally aims to be the medium of the student's expression and wall of updates, this publication has its specific goals and objectives. The Flare aims to:
- to provide updates regarding notable events, programs, and developments within the department
- to provide outlet for students' suggestion for the betterment of the department
- to create a bridge between internal and external affiliates of the department
- to represent students' votes in departmental meetings
- to provide an opportunity for journalistic and creative writing
