The town of Sto. Domingo in Albay celebrates the Sarung Banggi Festical annualy, marking its crystal anniversary. This vibrant and cativating event begins in the second week of May and culminates on May 19, honoring the birth of Potenciano V. Gregorio, the composer of the timeless love song "Sarung Banggi." The Festical was inaugurated in 2002 after Mayor Herbie B. Aguas signed Executive Proclamation No. 1 January 8, 2002.Â
The annual Parade of Dancing Lights, in which each barangay exhibits an amzing rendition of "Sarung Banggi," is highlight of the Sarung Banggi Festival. Participants dress in Spanish-era costumes and execute stunning cultural performances as they parade through downtown after sunset.
This unique festival brings thousands of tourist to Sto. Domingo, so it's best to reserve lodgings early.
