Dear BHS Community,
The Principal has a variety of responsibilities. One is that I have been participating in the City of Burlingame’s Vision Zero committee to reduce accidents/injuries/deaths to pedestrians and bicyclists. I’ve been working with the City to improve nearby intersections, which also have the Caltrain and many inexperienced drivers. Note: e-bikers/bikers will be cited for riding on sidewalks, unsafe speeds, etc. Â
Burlingame Police Department has a new Chief of Police whom I have met and discussed issues facing our community so we can proactively address student safety and community safety. BPD continues to have an incredibly fast response time when summoned. BPD also helps us maintain safety and security at football games and our larger spectator events like the return of basketball quads. We are very fortunate to have such a strong, positive collaboration with local law enforcement.
I also attend meetings of the Rotary Club of Burlingame and Hillsborough. The Rotary Club supports so many of our school initiatives including the upcoming Italian Exchange visit from a school in Udine, Italy; exchange with Japan; mock interviews with with AVID; college scholarships and more. It takes a village to foster such a strong sense of community. Rotary is always looking for host families for exchanges.
Speaking of Italy, I’m off to Naples for a week with two students for the AI International Summit with 1,500 students from >20 nations. Burlingame HS is a truly special place with so many opportunities for our students to thrive. We will be presenting about our experience, as well as the Italian Exchange (as our Naples reps are also host students), at the regular Rotary Meeting on Nov 12 at the Burlingame Rec Center if anyone would like to join ($30 for lunch, as a member, I can bring guests).
Go Panthers!
