October 20th-24th
Now more than ever, it’s essential to know the signs. Students and educators who participate in our Say Something program learn these life-saving warning signs. They’re taught to recognize signs and get help when their classmates show they may be in danger or need help. Warning signs can include things such as thoughts, feelings, actions, and behaviors. At-risk people can show significant or sudden changes in behavior or personality.
On Tuesday, the GTPD Traffic Safety Unit presented to the 12th grade Physical Education classes. Their presentation included information on safe driving, and the dangers and legal consequences of driving recklessly or under the influence. The students also had an opportunity to participate in hands on activities that simulated the change in motor function when attempting to compete tasks while under the influence.
Pre-Prom Presentation
Truth Over Trend, presented by Matthew Maher, was very impactful. Matthew’s journey is a cautionary tale of success and failure, redemption and forgiveness. His story previously entitled, “I’m That Guy” has been presented to high schools and colleges around the country. His once admirable life was derailed by a subsequent bad decision that landed him in N.J. State prison where he served four years and seven months and was released in August of 2014. From rising as a star to falling as a felon, Matthew's message centers around how our decisions determine our destiny and how accountability and integrity can become our security.
