Miss Liz grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut and graduated twice from Maine Maritime Academy in 2006 with a BS in Marine Transportation and in 2008 with a MS in International Business. After graduating, she worked in offshore drilling operations and had a small business in Maine. She was a Lab Instructor at MMA, a substitute teacher, and a special education Ed Tech 3 before joining the BHCS faculty full time as a Kindergarten teacher in 2020. She has completed 30+ hours of early childhood education courses through various institutions including EMCC, Southern New Hampshire State University, and Endicott College. The 2024-2025 school yearis her 5th year in this position.
She holds a K-8 General Education Certificaiton from the State of Maine and, she is currently working towards becoming a National Board Certified Teacher, board certifing as an Early Childhood Generalist for ages 3-8. https://www.nbpts.org/
Miss Liz has also been partnered with the Maine Department of Education as a Kindergarten Entry Implementation Specialist since 2024, and is entering her 2nd year of the project. This year, she is also serving as a mentor teacher for Educational Technicians seeking further certification and evaluation.
Last summer, she participated in the Maine DOE's partnership with the AIM Institute for Learning & Research to complete 8 modules in literacy instruction based on the Science of Reading. She has continued this work with 4 other teachers at BHCS by becoming involved in the Maine Department of Education's AIM Pathways - School Literacy Community of Practice Project. We have secured a $5000 literacy grant for BHCS! Miss Liz also tutors for both Math and ELA in the summer.
At BHCS, Miss Liz has served on the Playground Committee, Pre-K Committee, ELA Committee, as the Drama Director, and serves as BHCS' Scripp's Spelling Bee Coordinator.
When she's not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, her chickens, shopping, traveling, gardening, coffee, boating, and exploring the coast of Maine.
