Department of Chemistry

Established in 1959 and launching its undergraduate program in 1962, the Chemistry Department at Bhattadev University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of chemistry within the framework of the university curriculum. Housed on the ground floor of the Science Building facing the university field, our department maintains a balance between academic rigor and extracurricular activities. In addition to coursework, students participate in co-curricular activities such as sports and awareness programs, enriching their overall educational experience. Special lectures on diverse topics of academic significance are regularly organized to complement classroom learning. The department hosts departmental seminars, where faculty members and students present their research findings, fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration within the department. Additionally, students can participate in national seminars, workshops, and short-term schools, where they can interact with experts in the field and showcase their own academic as well as research endeavours. The department caters to students interested in pursuing careers as professional chemists or seeking a solid foundation for further study in chemistry or related disciplines. Our faculty members, who are internationally recognized experts in their respective fields, bring their expertise and passion for teaching and research to the classroom and laboratory. Through collaborations with prominent universities and relevant departments, students benefit from a rich academic environment that provides interdisciplinary learning and research opportunities. Alumni of our department hold positions in various national and international institutions, showcasing the quality and impact of our education.

In 2020, we proudly launched our Ph.D. program, offering advanced research opportunities for students seeking to make significant contributions to the field of chemistry. Building upon our strong foundation in undergraduate and master's level education, the Ph.D. program reflects our commitment to promote excellence in scientific inquiry and scholarship. In 2023, we expanded our offerings to include a Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in addition to our existing undergraduate programs. This M.Sc. program provides students with advanced training and research opportunities in chemistry, further enhancing our commitment to academic quality and student success. Our undergraduate program offers a three-year B.Sc. Honours program under the UGC's Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), featuring newly developed syllabi aligned with UGC guidelines and tailored to mastery of the subject matter. In 2023, we also initiated the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) under the National Education Policy (NEP), providing a foundation of education to bridge knowledge gaps and prepare students for higher studies in chemistry. This program aims to equip students with essential skills and knowledge necessary for success in the undergraduate curriculum. Furthermore, starting from the academic session 2022-23, we have introduced a new 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Chemistry (FYIMP). Students interested in this program must have passed Mathematics and Chemistry at the H.S. level. The program offers flexibility with multiple entry and exit points, in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 and subject to seat availability. Upon meeting the necessary requirements, exited students will receive certificates, diplomas, or degrees as applicable.

Our department also publishes an annual wall magazine titled "Crystal" showcasing student achievements, research findings, and departmental activities.
