Projects
Problem 1.4.1 - Design a Shoe
In Problem 1.4.1 - Design a Shoe, students identify a client with a unique footwear need and design a shoe that solves the client's problem. They practice active listening to fully articulate the client's need, brainstorm solutions, model a design, fabricate a prototype, test and redesign.
Problem 2.4.1 - Sustainability, Structures, and Transportation
In Problem 2.4.1 - Sustainability, Structures, and Transportation, students read a request for proposal (RFP) to update existing infrastructure. They choose what infrastructure they would like to address, add a renewable energy source, redesign a structural element, and analyze and redesign an intersection that serves their chosen structure.
Problem 3.3.1 - Fix Fran's Farm
In Problem 3.3.1 - Fix Fran's Farm, students select one of the three open-ended problems currently plaguing the farmer. Students complete the design process to solve the problem, like in previous unit problems, and then develop an investor pitch to present their solution. To heighten the authenticity, PLTW recommends inviting a guest panel of community members to serve as judges.
Problem 4.4.1 - Robotic Symphony
In Problem 4.4.1 - Robotic Symphony, students will collaboratively create a robotic system that will perform a piece of music as an ensemble. Each small group will develop their own robotic musical instrument. The collection of robotic instruments must play a song together in a final performance.
