8th Grade Learning Support

I will be teaching Reading and Math while also providing support in and out of the classroom. In Reading, we will work through the Read 180 Program. Math will focus on reviewing foundation skills and building skills for the future. Please feel free to email me with any questions that you may have.

Language Arts/Read 180

Instruction and practice will be provided in the following areas: vocabulary development, literary elements, figurative language, and critical reading skills. Various literary genres will be covered. The students will have time set aside to read novels of their choice. This is done to encourage and develop independent reading skills. It also gives them the opportunity to explore their own interests. The goal in eighth grade reading is to develop life-long readers.

Math

The Grade 8 Mathematics course is a combination of geometric and algebraic concepts that will enhance and extend Pre-algebra knowledge to prepare students for Algebra 1 and beyond. Application, problem solving, and critical thinking are integrated throughout the course. The main focus will be for students to solve, graph, and apply linear relationships. The course will extend students’ knowledge of the following: simplifying algebraic expressions, solving equations, and identifying and applying functions.

Support

The Support class is meant to help students in Math, Reading, as well as other classes students are in. This time is spent reteaching concepts, reviewing, collaborating, etc. Students who are assigned to my Support class will be able to use me as a resource to help complete assignments for other classes.
