Welcome to First Grade!

Hello!  My name is Karen Long and I love being an educator!  I earned a Human Resources Degree from Penn State then fell in love with teaching children.  I returned to college to earn my Elementary Education Certificate from West Chester University, my Masters Degree in Education from Wilkes University, and my Principal Certification from Alvernia University.  I have taught over 25 years in public education in both first grade and third grade.  I was also a Head Teacher, Assistant Principal, and an Elementary Principal during my educational journey.  As I look back, I think of the many students that I have impacted in a positive way!

My husband, Ron, and I have two wonderful grown daughters that are both married.  Our oldest daughter, Katie, is a Physician Assistant in the Lock Haven area.  Our daughter Megan is a Marketing Director in the Philadelphia area.  We currently have two Grandson that we adore!  My family and I love animals and have had many pets throughout our lifetime.  Currently, we have 1 cat that keeps us entertained.  In our free time, we enjoy being with our family, spending weekends at our cabin, and watching a variety of Penn State sports in State College.  I also love to read!

Teaching First Grade has been something that I have wanted to do for a long time.  I love seeing the children learn.  Each day is new and exciting.  I really believe that it is very important for my students' parents and I to work together.  This team approach benefits the child and his or her educational development.
