First Grade Teacher

I am excited to start my second year as a first grade teacher. Prior to this year, I taught third grade for 11 years and was a third/fourth grade looping teacher for 8 years. I love my job and enjoy watching children learn. I take their natural curiosity and use that to engage them in the learning process. Learning can be fun and I strive to have a balance of fun and rigor in my classroom. I have taught at Brandywine for decades and am proud to work in such a caring community, which values education. I like making connections with parents and working with them to have a positive year.

My husband's name is Mitch and we have two children. Jordan is in law school and Jensen is a kindergarten teacher in Parkland School District. In my free time I love to take walks, read, work in my flower garden, and go to the beach. You can find me at Starbucks or Target on any given weekend.

This year your child will be challenged in many areas. Some children shy away from challenges. I look forward to helping your child build his/her confidence so s/he is willing to accept challenges and seek to learn as much as s/he can. How can I accomplish this? I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement and acknowledging the little things.

Some school supplies you may want to consider:

glue sticks
dry erase markers/ eraser ** Please do not purchase a pencil box
pencils for school. I will provide one.
crayons **The district will supply materials if a
student scissors child needs them.
colored pencils
headphones to keep at school. ** Label your child's supplies.

**Parents may supply a healthy morning snack each day.

Our snack time will be in the morning.

Our class can always use tissues, large ziplock bags, sandwich and snack bags.

Are you interested in volunteering in our classroom. If so, see the district website for the clearances forms. Once they are filled out and submitted, the business office will notify me and I will reach out to you.
