Chamber Singers
Period 1 - Days 1, 3, 5
Chamber Singers is one of three choral ensembles at Brandywine Heights High School. Students may select the course each school year and are required to audition in order to participate in the ensemble. Chamber Singers performs advanced choral literature chosen from a broad range of genres, historical eras, and cultures. Chamber Singers rehearses every other cycle day during first period for the entire school year and has three major performances including the winterand spring concerts and Music In Our Schools, as well as other public performances. Enrollment in Chamber Singers (0.5 credits) satisfies the Art requirement and may be repeated for credit.
The objective of this course is to develop advanced musicianship skills and foster musical independence in choral music students. As a result of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate appropriate, proper, and healthy vocal technique and production
Identify, describe, and apply basic elements of music
Perform choral literature accurately and fluently, both alone and with others
Apply knowledge of historical and cultural influences, as well as composers’ expressive intent, to perform choral literature to the highest quality
Concert Choir
Period 1 - Days 2, 4, 6
Concert Choir is one of three choral ensembles at Brandywine Heights High School. Students may select the course each school year and are not required to audition in order to participate in the ensemble. The Concert Choir performs choral literature chosen from a broad range of genres, historical eras, and cultures. The Concert Choir rehearses every other cycle day during first period for the entire school year and has three major performances including the winter and spring concerts and Music In Our Schools. Enrollment in Concert Choir (0.5 credits) satisfies the Art requirement and may be repeated for credit.

Guitar
Period 4 - First Semester
Periods 2 & 6 - Second Semester
The Guitar course offers students at varying levels of interest, knowledge, and literacy of music the opportunity to engage with music by learning guitar.
The objective of this course is to develop music literacy, musicianship skills, and creativity in students from a broad range of musical backgrounds. As a result of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate how to tune and care for a guitar
Demonstrate proper guitar playing technique
Learn how to play chords, accompaniments, and melodies on the guitar
Learn how to read music notation, chord frames, and tablature
Develop an understanding of music fundamentals and theory
Learn how to perform, write and create music
Develop the ability to analyze, describe, and listen to music
Develop an understanding of music in relation to history and culture
AP Music Theory
Period 7
AP Music Theory is designed for students who are highly interested in and very serious about music theory. It is recommended for students who plan to pursue a music major in college. Students in this course must be highly motivated, self-disciplined, and eager to learn.
This course will develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score. The achievement of this objective may be best promoted by integrated approaches to the student’s development of aural skills, sight-singing skills, written skills, compositional skills, and analytical skills through listening exercises, performance exercises, written exercises, creative exercises, and analytical exercises.
The Advanced Placement Program (AP) administered through the College Board offers students an opportunity to take college level courses and exams while still in high school. Students successfully completing advanced placement courses and AP testing may earn credit and/or advanced standing in college.
Vocal Lab
Period 8
Vocal Lab is available for students in grades 10-12 and can be scheduled in combination with labs for other classes (i.e. Physics, Anatomy, etc.). Students have the flexibility to practice independently, rehearse in groups, and learn about topics in music that are outside of the regular curriculum.
Extra Curricular
Treble Choir
Friday: 2:30-3:45 p.m.
AIM, Days 2 & 5
Wednesday: 7:00-7:25 a.m. (occassionally)
Treble Choir is one of three choral ensembles at Brandywine Heights High School. This ensemble is not part of the regular school day and does not satisfy any academic credits, but rather meets as a club before and/or after school. Students in grades 9-12 who sing soprano or alto and are enrolled in Concert Choir may audition for Treble Choir. Treble Choir performs advanced choral literature chosen from a broad range of genres, historical eras, and cultures. Treble Choir has three major performances including the winter and spring concerts and Music In Our Schools, as well as other public performances. While attendance at rehearsals is crucial, students have the opportunity to participate in other after school activities (sports, juggling, etc.) as long as alternate plans have been made with the director
