Bharata Mata College (Autonomous), Thrikkakara, Kochi, is a leading co-educational arts and science college proudly managed by the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly. Founded in 1965 by the visionary His Eminence, the late Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, the college has a strong tradition of academic excellence. Recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act in 1996, it continues to stand out as a beacon of higher education. The college earned NAAC re-accreditation with an impressive A+ grade in 2019 and was granted Autonomous Status by the UGC in 2023. Additionally, Bharata Mata College secured a position in the NIRF Rank Band 100-150 for colleges in 2024, solidifying its reputation as a top-tier institution.
Established in 2004, the Bharata Mata School of Social Work functions as a vibrant hub for developing professional social workers capable of addressing both local and global human issues. Emphasizing experiential learning, the department encourages overall growth through hands-on field experience, innovative teaching methods, and meaningful research and outreach projects. Students excel through skill development workshops, guest lectures, and interactive training sessions. The department consistently hosts symposiums, seminars, and conferences, promoting collaboration and leadership in thought to enhance the educational experience for social work students and prepare them to become future professionals.
Bharathion, our annual academic platform, facilitates the exchange of ideas and knowledge between scholars and professionals on contemporary issues and research developments each year, featuring vivid and pertinent special themes. The theme of this year is Soley Manjey, which means Environment and Human, reflecting the deep bond between people and nature, inspired by Kerala’s indigenous tribes.
The conference will explore climate justice through the lenses of power, inequality, and ecological responsibility, encouraging new perspectives on sustainability. It will also discuss how climate change affects communities, policies, and ecosystems, emphasizing community-based approaches, indigenous knowledge, and ethical governance. By blending ecological, social, and technological insights, the event aims to promote inclusive, just, and sustainable solutions for our planet’s future.
