*What are Signposts?
In reading, signposts are words or phrases that help readers understand the structure of a text and follow the author's argument. They can be used to show relationships between ideas, anticipate what's coming next, and remind readers of key points. Signposts can also help readers understand how ideas contribute to the overall purpose of the text. These signposts are simply signals to alert. Students to pay attention to what they are reading and then stop to note what that signal might mean.
