Important to Know

Below you will find some helpful information for beginning school at St. Basil's.

Safe Arrival Program- is a system of procedures which is performed together with daily school attendance taking. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s safety. Safe-arrival programs are a mechanism that parents and schools can use to account for any pupil’s unexplained failure to arrive at school.

Lunch and Snacks- It promotes independence for students to be able to open and close lunch containers and packaging on their own. Practice at home before beginning school is very helpful. In Kindergarten, students will learn to identify and choose healthy snacks and a time for eating the special treats they bring to school. Please label lunch items (containers and lunch kits).

St. Basil's School is a citrus-sensitive school (please only bring already-peeled citrus foods). We also encourage nut free snacks and lunches.

Clothing and Backpacks- It is important to have an extra set of clothing at school in Kindergarten especially because we like to spend a fair bit of time outdoors. Please include in a labelled ziploc bag, the following:

• Socks

• Underwear

• Shirt

• Pants

**Please label all clothing (coats, mittens, shoes, boots, backpacks, etc).

Please also practice dressing and undressing for outdoor play with your child. The children need to change between indoor and outdoor shoes several times in the day so being able to do this independently is important.

Transportation- Your child may qualify for bussing. Please visit BGCDSB Transportation Services to learn more.

Before and After School Program- St. Basil`s ASP, operated by Wooden Hill Child Care Centre, has before and afterschool spaces available in our Extended Day Program for JK/SK students and School Age care for students up to grade 5. Daily educational, creative activities and active games (indoors and out) are planned and implemented by ECE teachers to complement their in-school learning. Our program provides children with a seamless day of learning and fun within the kindergarten classrooms at St. Basil’s.

• Times- Our Before School Program begins at 7AM daily and our Afterschool program is open until 6PM daily. We also offer a full day PD Day, March Break and Summer Camp for children enrolled in our programs.

• Costs for these programs are - $7.00 Before School, $11.00 After School and $38.00 Full DayPrograms.
