NBV3C (Native Studies: World Views & Aspirations) This course focuses on the beliefs, values, and aspirations of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Students will examine world views of Aboriginal peoples and the political, economic, cultural, and social challenges facing individuals and communities. Students will also learn how traditional and contemporary beliefs and values influence the aspirations and actions of Aboriginal peoples


HSE3E (Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice) This course enables students to develop an understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to equity, diversity, and social justice in a variety of contexts. Students will explore the nature of diversity and power relations in Canada and how social norms shape individual identity. They will learn about social activism and how to address situations that involve discrimination, harassment, and denial of rights. Students will develop and apply research skills and will design and implement a social action initiative relating to an equity, diversity, or social justice issue.

PAD3O (Outdoor Ed) This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle through instruction and participation in a variety of enjoyable outdoor physical activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence in a variety of outdoor skills and will be given opportunities to practice goal-setting, decision-making, social, and interpersonal skills. Students will also study the components of safe practices, psychology of adventure pursuits, personal wilderness ethics, leadership techniques, group dynamics and communication, organization and planning, responsibility, problem-solving and resourcefulness. The goal of experiential learning is to develop self-confidence through a variety of hands-on activity based experiences that will allow students to observe and understand the relationships and human influences in the natural world.

DCO3O (Creating Opportunities through Co-op ) This course consists of a learning experience connected to a community and a cooperative education curriculum focused on developing skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will support students in their learning, including their education and career/life planning, at school and beyond, today and in the future. Within the context of their experience connected to a community, students will apply skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will protect and promote their health, safety, and well-being and that will strengthen their inquiry, decision-making, and leadership skills. Students will create and implement a learning plan that meets their particular interests and needs, reflect on their learning, and make connections between their experience in the community and other aspects of their lives.

GRADE 12

NDG4M (Issues of Indigenous Peoples in a Global Context) This course provides students with an overview of the issues and challenges that confront indigenous peoples worldwide. Students will develop an understanding of the concerns and aspirations of the world’s indigenous population, plan and conduct research on global issues that have an impact on indigenous peoples, and use information technology to consult materials related to the views of indigenous peoples throughout the world.



HSE4M (Equity & Social Justice) This course enables students to develop an understanding of the theoretical, social, and historical underpinnings of various equity and social justice issues and to analyse strategies for bringing about positive social change. Students will learn about historical and contemporary equity and social justice issues in Canada and globally. They will explore power relations and the impact of a variety of factors on equity and social justice. Students will develop and apply research skills and will design and implement a social action initiative relating to an equity or social justice issue

PLF4M (Outdoor Ed) This course enables students to explore the benefits of lifelong participation in active recreation and healthy leisure and to develop the leadership and coordinating skills needed to plan, organize, and safely implement recreational events and other activities related to healthy, active living. Students will also learn how to promote the benefits of healthy, active living to others through mentoring and assisting them in making informed decisions that enhance their well-being. The course will prepare students for university programs in physical education and health and kinesiology and for college and university programs in recreation and leisure management, fitness and health promotion, and fitness leadership.
