Hello BASP Families!
We had a merry time playing in the snow together and creating Ho-Ho-Holiday crafts! They will be sent home next week for you to enjoy during Christmas.
We are so excited to get into the Christmas Spirit🧑🎄 with you, during next week's spirit week! Spirit days can be found on the red paper sent home in late November, on the school GoogleCalendar and on the Parent Memo/WAG.

Happy December MIC Before and After School Program Families!
We've been enjoying the start of the festive season🧑🎄✝️❄️!
With the Christmas Concerts coming up next week and the stage needing to be cleared for rehearsals - the BASP has been creative with using space in the school the run the program. We've been enjoying playing extra outside in the snow with the snow shovels, playing in the kindergarten room, visiting the library and using the gym floor. We have also occasionally been enjoying the musical stylings of the school recorder🪈 players! Thank you for sending your child(ren) ready to play and learn.
The Christmas Season and Holidays can be so busy, please make sure to sign your child(ren) up as early as you can (if you haven't already). December and January BASP sign up forms have been added to the site.

Welcome Back Winter!!
Playing cards is a fair and fun activity that has been bringing the kids and adults together for friendly competition. The kids have been planning their next steps, laughing and hoping for that perfect hand. In the end, everyone has been learning to celebrate the winner with happiness and showing good sportsmanship.

Its hard to believe we are heading into the last week of November next week. This week has been a short but busy week at BASP. The kids really enjoyed word searches, creating and playing their own"live" version of Candy Land, Lego and trains just to name a few.

The week began with the first snowfall of the season filling the school with excitement. Please remember to dress your kids for the weather.
We learned a new twist on the classic Rock Paper Scissors game that brought energy and laughter. The game encouraged teamwork, quick thinking, and friendly competition.
Students participated in art activities about Remembrance Day, learning about the importance of honouring those who served and continue to serve.

We had a lovely short week together getting in the spooky👻 spirit for next week's exciting Halloween events and spirit days (see below)! We created such exciting crafts together and played lots of sports/games too!

We had a lovely four day week after Thanksgiving🦃 together. We practiced our BASP Matrix and had lots of creative fun, such as self guided exploration, making magic potions, and completing the other half of leafs.

What a wonderful second week of October!🥧
We started off strong with our Fall spirit days, learned about fire prevention and welcomed in the cool Fall weather!
As you might have spotted above we have our very own MIC Before and After School Expectations Matrix! It is based off of the whole school Matrix, the responses of the BASP friends, and specific expectations/situations that are experienced during the program. Please take the time to ask your child(ren) what being Kind, Safe and Responsible might look like in the program and review the Matrix. Practice makes perfect.
Gobble, gobble, gobble!🦃🦃 Happy Early Thanksgiving! We are so thankful to learn and laugh with the students and families of our school community but especially our BASP friends! We hope you have a wonderful weekend surrounded by the three F's - family, friends, and food!

Be-leaf🍁 us that the MIC Before and After Program is tons of fun!
This week we celebrated a student birthday and Every Child Matters Day on Tuesday, and went blue for Blue Jays Day on Friday. We've enjoyed welcoming back more friends to the program from the previous school year too. Looking forward to a new season of fun!
A reminder that October sign ups are open! Woohoo! Don't forget to make sure to try and sign up at least 48 hours earlier as per the policy for safety and to secure your spot(s).

Happy Fall!
What a wonderful surprise it was to get a couple early Christmas gifts this week. We were lucky to receive a new clamshell storage shelf and mini fridge. Both pieces of furniture are being used already and we are thankful to Mr. Lantz for helping with setting them up for us.

We have officially had 14 days at BASP and are settling in to a nice routine. We have been working on following MIC's three expectations-Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Responsible. We are filled with such joy and gratitude to conclude the very first year of the Mary Immaculate Chepstow Before and After School Program. We have loved learning, laughing, and leaping into spending time with such amazing families. This last week there has been so much going on but we've enjoyed playing, creating and soaking in our last moments until Summer vacation.

Its hard to believe there is only one week of school left before we all take some time to enjoy the summer months. The kids had a blast building and creating with Lego, the train tracks, forts, and we even made some playdough this week.

As summer break is drawing nearer, we are still staying busy at BASP. Creativity was flowing this week while the kids crafted key chains. They were brimming with imagination and worked together cooperatively to design a chicken coop in the gym. Anything can happen if you put your mind to it.

In a few weeks, school will draw to a close but the BASP continues to hang out together. There is always something happening and boredom is never an option. This week we spent time doing some of our favourite activities like colouring with our paint sticks, playing outside and board games.
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we're planning our before and after school program. Wow! It is hard to believe we are saying good-bye to the month of May in a couple days. As the saying goes. "Time sure flies when you are having fun", at BASP. We had another delightful week of games, colouring, sand, bubbles and great companionship. We can't wait to do it all over again next week.

May 12th-16th
The warmer days this week had our BASP kids spending as much time outside as they could. The kids were happy to see their plants start to sprout and enjoyed gardening in the warm sun. We decided to brighten up the yard with some colourful sidewalk chalk designs and had an early morning picnic outside. Through all of their adventures, the BASP kids are learning the value of teamwork and collaboration.

Wow! What a busy week celebrating Catholic Education week! Miss Harshman and I are truly blessed to spend our days with such caring 'Pilgrims of Hope'.
Our Before and After school kids have explored gardening, drawing and we could possibly have some Dr's in our future. Check out our pictures below.

April 22nd-25th
This week we celebrated Earth Day at BASP. We began with our morning group creating our own earth craft with recycled coffee filters and ended the day with our afternoon group planting seeds to allow for us to grow them in the plant boxes at the school. We also learned how to play the board games, Pay Day and Sorry. Fun was had by all so as always ask your child about their adventures.

WE had another great week at BASP. The weather was silly this week so we decided to try out some homemade silly putty. Earlier this week we took advantage of National waffle day and decided to do some taste testing. Yummy! 🧇

March 17th- 21st.
Springtime is here and we couldn't be more happier. We were able to spend more time enjoying the warmer temperatures and mixed in some spring puffy paint and Bingo dauber crafts, tattoos, reading and independent play time.
Earlier this week we celebrated 'International Read to me day' and today, we decorated our very own socks to celebrate 'World Down Syndrome Day'. Check out the pictures below for our unique creations. As always ask your children about their experiences at BASP.

With a new month begins new adventures. Our little group loves science so we had fun conducting some science experiments. Feb 24-28th
To start the week off, our before school kids painted the school yard with PINK 💕's and words of kindness!
The kids participated in a KINDNESS challenge and were awarded a KINDNESS certificate! Congratulations!
On Wednesday, Feb 26th, our Before school kids help celebrate a 100 days at school by hiding 100 pictures of Mrs. Pitre around the school. The entire school participated by collecting them. What a fun school wide activity led by your Before School kids!
After the school collected the 100 pictures of Mrs Pitre, we put our math skills to test and counted by 10's to make sure the school had collected all of the pictures. We found out we were successful. Way to go MIC!

Just another week filled with fun and memories. We spent a lot of time enjoying the great outdoors, learning about Black History Month, conducting a love potion experiment and valentine's crafts. Happy Valentine's Day ! ♥️

On Wednesday morning we took advantage of the beautiful morning and explored the school yard on snowshoes. It was the first time for some and fun was had by all. Ask your child about their experience!

HOT CHOCOLATE FOR THE WIN!
This morning I surprised the kids with celebrating National Hot Chocolate Day, a day early. The boys enjoyed a yummy cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows along side their healthy snacks. They sure were full of smiles!

This weeks bus cancellations didn't stop us from having fun. We took advantage of the snow and did some inquiry around snowflakes. We spent some time creating snowflakes, colouring, playing games, building with lego, eating healthy snacks and playing in the snow. What a week! Snow Days and the cold frigid temperatures allowed our little club to continue with some more winter themed activities. It was too cold to go outside so we brought the snow inside and painted. We worked really hard creating yarn snowflakes and dabbled in painting ice.
