Coach Hayley DeLano | PE Department Chair | HS Girls PE & Yoga | Varsity Track & Field Coach
Hi everyone! My name is Hayley DeLano. This is my 10th year teaching PE. I have coached cross country, soccer, and track and field. I was a collegiate track and field athlete at Mesa Community College and Utah State University. This year I will be teaching JH / HS PE and HS Yoga.
My educational philosophy in PE revolves around fostering and promoting lifelong wellness. I believe in creating an inclusive learning environment. By integrating physical, social, emotional, and cognitive aspects, I aim to empower students with the skills and knowledge necessary for their overall well-being. I personalize instruction to meet individual students' needs and interests. By instilling a love for physical activity and promoting healthy habits, my goal is to empower students to lead active, healthy lives beyond the classroom.
I like to spend my free time with my family. I have 5 kids. Two have graduated from high school, two are in high school, and one is in middle school. I enjoy running, doing diy projects, decorating, hiking, traveling, watching movies, and hanging out with my husband.
Coach Danny Norris | HS Weight Training | Head Football Coach
Hi everyone! My name is Danny Norris and I am so excited to be the Head Football Coach and Physical Education Teacher at Benjamin Franklin High School! I have been a Strength and Conditioning Coach here in AZ since 2009 and began my teaching career in 2016. After spending 7 years in the private sector of Sports Performance/Personal Training, I decided to transition to the education world to help fulfill my personal Mission Statement: To help empower young men and women to become the best versions of themselves. I have been a football coach in AZ since 2009 and a Head Coach since 2017. My wife, Kelsey, and I got married in August 2020 and welcomed our twin boys (Cason and Easton) in September 2021 and our daughter in January 2024 (Abigail). We enjoy spending time with our family, playing outside with our boys, attending sporting events and serving others.
Coach Doriane Gunnels | JH Boys PE , JH Intro to Weights, HS Weight Training |
Hello everyone, I am Doriane Gunnels and this is my first year at Benjamin Franklin school. My family and I just moved here from Washington State. I worked for 12 years in the Bellingham school district as a middle school and alternative high school Fitness/Health teacher. I coached gymnastics and track and field for 10 years. I rowed (crew) for Western Washington University for two years. I have a Masters in Education, Bachelors in Science, National Board certified teacher & I am a level 1 CrossFit trainer.
As a teacher I strive to meet the needs of the whole child: mental, emotional, physical & social. I focus on teaching the 5 components of fitness (cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, composition) while integrating the CrossFit philosophy of progression: measurable, observable, repeatable. Fitness is for everybody and I enjoy meeting students at their fitness level and challenging them to be their best.
I look forward to getting to know each and every student while teaching what I am passionate about, fitness & health!
