Welcome!
Hi! I'm Mrs. Schmaltz and I love teaching. This will be my fourth year teaching at Ben Franklin! I have taught first grade the past three years and am excited to have some returning students and new students too! I am an Arizona native and graduated from Arizona State University. My favorite subject is math and I also enjoy reading. I am a proud Panther parent to an amazing 5th grader! Whenever I can, I love to be in the woods either camping, hiking, or fishing. It is the inspiration for our class camping theme!

Educational Philosophy
Each student brings something special to the classroom and will perform best when in a safe, structured, and positive environment. It is my job to be the student’s guide and provide an atmosphere where they can enjoy learning and grow exponentially. I also believe in a strong connection between home and school with open and honest communication being the key to each student’s success.
What I am looking forward to...
I am looking forward to learning so many amazing things together! Our classroom will practice kindness, support, and respect for each other. We will work hard and have high expectations of ourselves. It will be a great year!
