Week 1:
7th Grade: I will be presenting all the materials the students will need for Science. We will cover safety, watch a safety video, take a safety quiz and do a safety sketch. We will also be covering how to think like a scientist and How to think critically.
HS: I will be presenting all the materials they students will need for Science. We will cover safety, watch a safety video, take a safety quiz and do a safety sketch. We will also be covering how to think like a scientist, How to think critically, making data tables and creating graphs
Week 2:
7th Grade: The Junior High students will be finishing up the pre-Amplify material, to include measurements, use of data charts and graphs and experiment design. They will also take a pretest on all things scientific. Finally, they will conduct their first experiment on Friday (How many licks to the center of a Tootsie Pop)
High School: The High School students will take pre-test on all things scientific. They will begin their studies on Earth Science starting with chapter 1, Introduction to Earth Science and conduct their first lab, Use of a microscope.
Week 3:
7th Grade: Next week we will be beginning the Amplify program. The students will have laptops, assigned by their seat, to use. We have covered the laptop use policy (to only be used for Amplify work, not grade checking, work in any other class or surfing the web. The lessons will begin with a study of the Microbiome of a human body, concentrating on bacterial illnesses. We will also conduct a microscope LAB on the block days.
High School: The high schoolers will continue the studies on mapping. There will be a lab on Tuesday on topographical mapping. They will review chapter one on the first part of block day and take the chapter one exams in the second half. On Friday, they will begin a new chapter on Matter.
Week 4:
7th Grade: Junior High will spend the week concentrating on bacteria that can affect the human digestive system. They will conduct case study for a patient who has contracted one of these diseases. They will also learn how to prepare foe and conduct a Scientific Arguement
High School: Matter is the topic for next week. We're going to look at atoms, elements , molecules and changes of state. The lab wet for block day will involve turning ice into water and then water into water vapor. The worksheets will be due on Friday, when they will take the Chapter Two Exams.
Week 5:
7th Grade: We will be finishing Microbiomes with an exam on Block day. The Long Term Projects ( sketch of the human digestive system and five worksheets) will also be due that day. We will be working on the Press Release Monday and Tuesday. Finally, we will start our studies on Natural selection after taking the pre-test on the second half of block day.
High School:
The high school students will start a new action on Minerals. There will be a density lab set to accomplish on Thursday as well as a review for the exams on Friday. Minerals is a very short chapter, so it only takes a week to cover it.
Week 6:
7th Grade: The students will launch full into Natural Selection. They will be given their long term projects, which will be due on the Natural Selection Final Exam day. There are three worksheets and a drawing of the planet Earth with its biomes. Tuesday will feature classification Lab using M&M candies. They will be using the SIM a lot to set up classifications on animals and how the environment can change trait distribution.
High School: The students will study rocks this week. They will learn of the three types and how they are formed. There will also be a lab on how rocks move through the Rock Cycle.
Week 7:
7th Grade: Long three day weekend coming up! No homework as it is a R&R weekend. When the student return, we will continue our studies on the poisonous newt population and how they got that way.
High School: Long three day weekend coming! No homework as it is an R&R weekend. The High school will come back and begin their Earth Studies on Weathering.
